Military vision?

Footage broadcast around the world showed the Defense Minister Amir Peretz (on the right) peering through binoculars to review his crack Israeli troops. Oops. The bloody lens caps are still on and the guy fails to notice, even after the third view. He just grins and nods and feigns that he sees the big picture.
This is perfect fodder for his critics, who don't hesitate to mock Peretz for a lack of military vision, particularly after the conduct of last summer's debacle in Lebanon. Click here to read more. Ynet points out that both Ariel Sharon and George W Bush, leaders known for rather opaque views on things military, have been snapped in the same absurd stance with the blinkers on. It figures.

I have seen similar photo's with Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. I suspect photoshop at work in these cases as I have never seen "anyone" continue to look through a camera, microscope or binoculars with the lens obstructed without checking it out.

It was Bill Clinton, not George Bush who left the cap on his binoc!

Night vision goggles have pin holes for daylight use. It would be nice to take the extra step and verify the type of binoculars.

I guess I looked stupid when I looked thru night vision glasses with their special lens caps on. They were classified at the time.

You have a great blog! One of the best I have seen (And I blog a lot).

The Defense Minister should move to Mahoning County-in Ohio, USA. With his "vision", he could be crowned King.

If, you don't believe me-just read the novel SWAP by Sam Moffie to learn about the place.

I too have seen this mistake being made by Presidents Clinton and Bush, so I must suspect more creative editing in this case as well.

Yeah, both Clinton and Bush have done it. Don't know if they pretended they could see through the caps, though.

Anyone who has ever owned a pair of binoculars has (at least once) accidentally put them up to their eyes with the lens caps on. And this is especially true of someone hands you a pair of binoculars. You would expect the person who passed them to you made sure the caps were off first. It doesn't matter if the photos were real or doctored. It doesn't mean anything.

These are links to documented photos of American presidents Bush and Clinton making the same lenscap blooper. (Pix capture a single instant, and not the correction moments afterward. But Peretz was videotaped and continued looking through his for 3 times. Someone try to find the incriminating YOUTube of the boob. One analyst in Jerusalem POst says that Peretz is being mocked because he's an ethnic Moroccan Jew, not an Ashkenazi . But I don't buy that. It's just stupidity caught on film, and everyone enjoys laughing at that
